BRIEF: In a significant preventive policing action, the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of East District apprehended an individual involved in illegal possession of arms and ammunition. Acting on specific and real-time intelligence, the police team successfully intercepted the accused before he could execute any planned criminal activity. The recovery of an illegal firearm and live cartridges prevented a potential threat to public safety and reflects the district’s continued commitment towards proactive policing.
INCIDENT & INVESTIGATION:
In view of the recent surge in criminal activities, AATS/East District was specifically tasked to intensify surveillance and take strict action against individuals involved in illegal arms possession and organized crime. A dedicated team was constituted under the leadership of Insp. Pawan Yadav, under the close supervision of Sh. Pawan Kumar, ACP/Operations. The team comprised SI Sandeep, ASI Satyaveer, ASI Deepak Tyagi, ASI Munender, HC Krishan, and HC Sandeep, who were actively engaged in intelligence gathering and field surveillance.
Based on credible intelligence regarding the movement of a suspicious individual associated with the notorious “Chenu Gang” and allegedly carrying illegal weapons, the team laid a strategic trap in the area and successfully apprehended the accused. Upon search, one country-made pistol along with two live cartridges was recovered from his possession. During sustained interrogation, it was revealed that the accused is an active member of the “Chenu Gang” and provides logistical support to its members. He was found to be associated with one Shezad, an active robber involved in multiple recent robbery incidents across Delhi. Notably, Shezad was earlier arrested by the staff of Shahdara District on 22.03.2026 and was sent to judicial custody. However, he is presently in police custody remand in connection with a robbery case registered vide FIR No. 86/26 dated 17.03.2026 at PS Krishna Nagar, Delhi. The accused is also a co-accused with Shezad in a theft case. The accused further disclosed that he was roaming in the area with the intention to commit robbery at gunpoint, which was successfully thwarted due to timely police intervention. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 199/26 dated 01.04.2026 U/s 25 Arms Act has been registered at PS New Ashok Nagar, and further investigation is underway. Efforts are being made to trace the source of the illegal weapon and to dismantle the supply network.
