Srinagar, October 19, 2026, Muhammad Yaqoob Dunoo, National Spokesperson of the National Loktantrik Party (NLP), has strongly condemned the reported stone-pelting attack on a Jammu and Kashmir passenger Volvo bus belonging to Star World at Ludhiana, Punjab. Expressing serious concern over the repeated targeting of passenger buses associated with Jammu and Kashmir, he said that such incidents are not merely attacks on vehicles but an assault on the dignity, security and sentiments of the people of Kashmir.

Dunoo said that the latest incident is particularly alarming as it comes just two days after a similar stone-pelting attack on a J&K passenger Volvo bus at Karnal, Haryana, in which two accused were reportedly arrested. He said that the recurrence of such incidents raises serious questions about the safety of Kashmiri passengers, transport operators and the business community operating outside Jammu and Kashmir.

“The people of Kashmir deserve dignity, security and equal protection under the law, wherever they live, travel or conduct their business. Targeting a passenger bus associated with Jammu and Kashmir creates fear among ordinary citizens and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. An attack on a bus carrying our people must not be treated as an ordinary act of mischief; it must be investigated seriously and dealt with firmly under the law,” Dunoo stated.

The National Spokesperson demanded that the two accused arrested in connection with the Karnal incident be dealt with strictly under applicable law, and that the competent authorities examine the grounds for invoking the Public Safety Act (PSA), wherever legally justified. He further demanded the immediate identification and arrest of those responsible for the Ludhiana incident and called for equally strict legal action against them, including consideration of the PSA where its statutory requirements are satisfied.

Dunoo questioned the apparent disparity in the treatment of stone-pelting incidents, stating that when Kashmiri youth are accused of stone-pelting in Jammu and Kashmir, stringent legal provisions, including the PSA in appropriate cases, have been invoked. He demanded that the law be applied fairly and consistently, without discrimination based on region or identity.

“The rule of law must be equal for everyone. Nobody should receive preferential treatment because of where they come from, and nobody should be targeted because they are Kashmiri. Those responsible for violence, intimidation and attacks on public transport must face firm legal consequences. The same standards of justice must apply to everyone,” he added.

The National Loktantrik Party appealed to the Punjab and Haryana police administrations to ensure a thorough investigation, take effective preventive measures and provide adequate protection to passenger transport services operating to and from Jammu and Kashmir. The party also urged the concerned authorities to ensure that no individual or group is allowed to spread fear, hostility or hatred against Kashmiris.

Dunoo reiterated that the National Loktantrik Party stands firmly for the safety, dignity and constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and will continue to raise its voice against every incident of violence, intimidation and discrimination directed at them.
