A Mewat-based interstate gang of criminals indulging in ATM breakings busted with the arrest of its kingpin, Mohd. Jahid.
With his arrest, a case of ATM breaking in Delhi has been solved.
The accused is a habitual offender and has previously been involved in 15 cases in Delhi and other states.
He has also been declared Proclaimed Offender in two cases.
A team of Southern Range, Special Cell, led by Inspr. Ranjeet Singh and Inspr. Satvinder under the supervision of ACP Sh. Ved Prakash, has busted an interstate gang of Mewat-based criminals indulging in ATM breakings in Delhi/NCR and other states by arresting its kingpin, namely Mohd. Jahid (age 31 years) s/o Mohd. Shahbuddin r/o Nuh (Mewat), Haryana. He was apprehended while he was going to Guwahati for ATM breaking in Assam with his other associates who were already present there.
How Special Cell arrested ?

In view of the increase in incidents of ATM breakings in Delhi, a team of SR, Special Cell comprising ASI Sazid Khan, HC Aas Mohd., HC Naveen Kumar, and HC Anil Kumar, etc., was tasked with collecting intelligence in this regard and identifying the gang behind these crimes. The team members worked persistently, gathered information, and identified the members of the gang responsible for these acts. The incessant efforts of the team paid off when specific information was received about the arrival of a key member of the gang named Mohd. Jahid at Palam, New Delhi, between 5.00 pm and 6.30 pm on December 25, 2023.
Consequently, a team led by Inspr. Ranjeet Singh was formed, and a trap was laid around Red Light, Palam Airport, New Delhi, and the accused, Mohd. Jahid,, was nabbed from the spot. The accused has already been declared PO in case FIR No. 84/12 Dt. 15.03.12 u/s 380 IPC PS Geeta Colony, New Delhi, and FIR No. 187/19 Dt. 16.10.19 u/s 25 Arms Act PS Special Cell, New Delhi. It also came out that he and his associates have recently stolen Rs. 7.5 lakh from an ATM booth in the Welcome area of Delhi, and a case has already been lodged there.
Modus operandi
Members of the gang used to identify unguarded ATM booths in less-lit and isolated areas. Thereafter, they used to conduct a thorough reconnaissance of the area around ATM booths. They would sprinkle black paint on the CCTV cameras after entering the ATM booths and would also wear face masks and monkey caps to conceal their identities. They would cut the machine with the help of gas cutters and take out the cash trays. Members of the gang would use robbed/stolen cars like Creta, Scorpio, etc. with fake number plates to commit crimes.
Background and criminal activities
On interrogation, the accused disclosed that he, along with his associates, had committed ATM theft in the area of Welcome, Delhi, on December 1, 2023, and stolen Rs. 7.5 lakh from there. He also divulged that he used a stolen car with a fake number plate to reach the spot. On enquiry, it came out that the said car is visible in CCTV footage near the spot. The accused is a habitual offender and has previously been involved in about 15 criminal cases, including 14 ATM breakings in Delhi, MP, Haryana, and Assam.
The remaining members of the gang have also been identified, and efforts are being made to nab them.
