Advocate Rajesh Suri Memorial Award 2024 by RTI Club Uttarakhand

DEHRADUN – SHAHEED RTI ACTIVIST RAJESH SURI LIVES ON 

The RTI Club has launched the Rajesh Suri Memorial Award in 2024 (Uttarakhand) for the advocate and RTI activist’s bravery and integrity. During his momentous lifetime, he uncovered many scams in Uttarakhand. To his merit he unearthed – Daulat Ram Trust Scam (700 bigha land scam), Angeliya Housing Society (7000 bigha land scam), Twenty Crore Stamp Scam and Judge Quarter Scam. He uncovered Fake currency involving ISI Paksitan and NRHMC scam as well. 

 Also, RTI Activist Rajesh Suri was a fearless and conscientious whistleblower. He helped the State Government to collect revenue theft of seventeen cores under the Stamp Act. Moreover, he was the Standing Counsel for Nagar Nigam. He never charged anything, not even his salary. Yet never shied away from his responsibility and duty.

THE DEATH – TRAP (2014)

Unfortunately, advocate Rajesh Suri, faced a death trap. The high court, Nainital had admitted the writ petitions of the scams in November 2014 .They were listed for final hearing in Jan 2015. He was on his way back from Nainital to Dehradun and on returning didn’t sleep a wink. The next morning, he passed away in acute pain and discomfort.  They had used a life-threatening poison to kill him. He underestimated the situation and didn’t imagine that people could murder him to cover up their sinister deeds.

INVESTIGATION AND TRIAL OF MURDER CASE (2014 – 2024)

As anticipated, the police have registered a murder case. A FIR crime number 317/2014 under section 302/328 ipc is pending investigation. The accused are Advocate Divya Jain, her father Sudhir Jain and Lawyer, gangster and land mafia Ravi Kant Kriyana.

However, the murder case is still pending a fair investigation and subsequent trial at the district court. The CBI has refused to intervene despite recommendation from the Chief Minister, Uttarakhand citing paucity of time. Many years have rolled on, but Rajesh’s spirit of passionate law practice and RTI activism still lives on.

DEATH DOES’NT ALWAYS MEAN AN END…

People can move on to become a beacon of light even when they are gone. Advocate Rajesh Suri is such a person. As a result, the RTI Club Uttarakhand has dedicated a Shaheed Rajesh Suri Memorial Award 2024 in his memory and honor. This award is for lawyers and legal activists exclusively.

SHAHEED RAJESH SURI MEMORIAL AWARD 2024

The RTI Club Uttarakhand on Saturday, 16th November 2024 at Dwarika Store, organised “Annual Celebration of Right to Information Day”.  The courageous RTI warriors Mr. Ajit Chauhan ji, Shaheed Jagdish Chauhan and Advocate Vikesh Negi ji were conferred with the Shaheed Rajesh Suri Memorial Award 2024. These dedicated warriors have actively exposed widespread corruption using the might of legal practice and RTI activism.

RTI CLUB, UTTARAKHAND 

In this program, the club’s president Dr. BP Maithani, Justice Mr. DP Gairola and Lokpal UPCL were present as chief guests. The club’s chief patron Dr. S Farooq presided over the function. Erstwhile Information Commissioner Mr. Vipin Chanda and former Information Commissioners Vinod Nautiyal and Surendra Singh Rawat were present as special guests.

Club General Secretary Amar Singh Dhunta, Vice President Ms. Rita Suri, Secretary Yagya Bhushan Sharma, Organization Surendra Singh Thapa, Organization Secretary Ajay Narayan Sharma, and respected RTI activists from other districts were present.  Senior Vice President Mrs. Kamla Pant chaired the program.
