Dehradun| Twelve areas in Dehradun get public cameras for surveillance after RTI activist Rita Suri files an RTI against corrupt government employees. It has been found that government employees belonging to the cleaning and sanitation department in Dehradun, Uttarakhand have been misusing the government employment opportunities. They accept the jobs and then put forward other poor people at work and pocket the huge salaries allocated to them. To top it all, cleanliness and hygiene is not maintained on the roads and colonies.
Meanwhile, the assigned workers have been found missing and not performing. The ad hock staff has been found involved in criminal activity like stealing and loss of life as they are not on record. This is gross corruption at the grass root level. Despite knowledge of this illegal activity, the higher authorities are not taking any action.
To save the day, RTI activist Rita Suri, using RTI as a medium has got orders passed in which now the following twelve areas– Bannu School Racecourse Road, MDDA Colony, Mata Mandir Road, Rakshi nursery deep nagar, Dhoran Gaun, Neshwilla Road, Nalapani, Rajiv Gandhi Complex, Crossing Chowk Sahastradhar road, Mall of Dehradun, Shastri Road andKargi Dumping Place have public cameras installed to monitor this kind of activity and act as a security measure.
This is just the start and other areas and wards will also be covered, and cameras will be installed. We think this is a step in the right direction and helps to secure the common man and will ensure that the deserving people get the jobs. This will instill discipline in the employees and create a safe civic society.
