Gross injustice to stray dogs and their protector in Sonipat
Sonipat | Bhumika Gupta, an animal activist and resident of Max Heights Society Badhkhalsa, Sonipat Haryana is being attacked and traumatized by animal haters and inhabitants of the society. Police has found that Bhumika Gupta and her family who feeds and takes care of stray dogs living in the gated society is being continuously threatened and assaulted by RWA members and mobs. The police have registered an FRI under IPC 147, IPC 149, IPC 323, IPC 354 –A and IPC 506 against Raman Khurana, Surender Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Rakhi Khurana, Savi and Veena Jain. The SHO, Rai Police Station told Crime Editor Rohit Kumar that the investigation is in the process.
Bhumika’s Higher Calling
Furthermore, in an interview with Newsindia9, Bhumika explained that her love and care for the creatures is a higher calling, and she feels there is a pertinent need to protect these stray dogs from a living hell and death by murder. Though shas been assured by the RWA (Resident Welfare Association president Ajay Gupta and local SHO Umesh Gupta in early 2024 that there will be enough feeder spots, RO water, and sterilization of homeless dogs and shelter by the RWA, nothing has materialized, and the reassurance was a hoax. She is still struggling alone and even the local police intervention is of no use; the goons and local inhabitants of the society have ganged up against Bhumika and her innocent family.
Don’t these innocent creatures have right to co –exist?
In fact, the country’s law protects stray dogs as the Supreme Court has laid down guidelines to protect them. In short, the society in which, the dogs are living has to protect them by giving them food, water, sterilization and an all-weather proof shelter. The court has directed the local authorities must follow the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA) of 1960 and the Animal Birth Control Rules (ABC) of 2023. The ABC laws prohibit the killing of stray dogs by local authorities and mandate sterilization and vaccination as the humane and effective method for controlling for stray dog population.
Also, the Animal Board of Welfare India intervened, and a complaint has been given to the local Municipality of Commissioner and District Magistrate regarding the matter. Despite the system and law on Bhumika’s side, it’s sad that the residents are poisoning helpless puppies, pushing hungry stray dogs from high floors and using sticks and sharp objects to brutal attack and finish these dogs. This behavior of the residents of is not just cruelty but cold-blooded murders of voiceless creatures.
Bhumika ‘s life is in danger, and she is being tormented to no extend, just because she is a good human being. We need more people like her who are aware of the fine balance between human life and animals. The law of the country must protect her and dogs so that this balance is maintained.
