Advocate Sidharth Joshi : Remuneration must for junior advocates

An Interview one of the top Advocates in High Court

Sidharth Joshi is a senior advocate who commenced his professional journey under the guidance of Honorable Justice S C Jain.
Sidharth Joshi Associates is a leading law firm in India that provides a spectrum of legal practices. His expertise encompasses presenting, arguing, and drafting distinct cases in the Supreme Court of India and the High Courts of Delhi, Bombay, Punjab, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, and Shimla. He is also mastered in handling cases concerning Tribunals including the Debt Recovery Tribunal, Central Administrative Tribunal, etc.

Some of the notable achievements of Mr. Joshi include Ajay Gulati vs. Union of India, Nav Bharat Impex vs.Union of India, Vijay Kumar vs. Union of India, MCD vs. Suman Devi, and Pragun Buildtech (P) Ltd. vs.Smt. Sarla Aggarwal & Ors. In an interview, SidharthJoshi was asked about the Advocates vs. Delhi Police case from November 8, 2019. The case witnessed about 8000 outraged lawyers going on protests. The interview asked Mr. Joshi about the current review of the esteemed Delhi High Court Senior and Junior Advocates. Sidharth Joshi responded by calling the November 8, 2019 incident ‘unfortunate’, further saying that the protests happened at the spur of the moment and were an issue concerning parking amidst elections.

Furthermore, Sidharth Joshi claimed that it wasn’t the fault of the Advocates as they were seeking a spot at the parking location as usual. The police were to blame as they appeared at the scene with fury and also fired at the spot. Moreover, on the situation among Delhi High Court advocates, Mr. Joshi said that this is a different issue pertaining to stipends. He told the interviewer that a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) was also filed in 2022 which was rejected by the Delhi High Court.

The senior advocates were at war with the High Court demanding that the Junior Advocates be paid with a proper stipend. Later, another PIL was filed at the beginning of this year, where another bench ruled that the PIL should be considered. Recently, a judgment arrived at the Madras’ High Court on June 12 where it was said that Rs. 20,000 must be the stipend for Junior advocates at Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai, and simultaneously, Rs. 15000 should be stipend paid to junior advocates in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. He calls this judgment valid, suggesting that all lawyers at Courts have completed their law degrees and deserve to be paid for their basic requirements, just as all the laborers do.

In a telephonic Interview with Rohit Kumar (Crime Editor) Advocate Sidharth Joshi  said that many petitions are being filed concerning the new criminal laws, challenging the many provisions pertaining to the laws. Although, he says, there is no agitation among citizens and advocates. This is because advocates are aware of the fact that laws will continue to witness changes over time, further stating that changes are inevitable when it comes to law. It is required that laws are read and reviewed consistently, and people must adapt and accommodate the changes. Mr. Joshi hoped that the laws would be used the right way in terms of legislation.
