Animal Activist Tamanna Grover threatened and abused by Mob and Local Police

elhi | On the night of 26 Th Jan, Tamanna Grover was surrounded, threatened, abused, manhandled by a mob of approximately 200-300 residents of Kosmos Society. Instead of taking action against the mob, police of 135 police Thana Led by SSI Sanjay Malik (acting SHO) refused her complaint, confiscated her phone, locked her up in Thana and filed FIR against her.

A year or so ago Tamanna made a complaint of illegal construction against one Madhurendra , fellow resident who work in Newsnation channel. Since then, he has been targeting her by resident groups and inciting hate and hostility against her using the excuse that she feeds dogs.

The sequence of events:
Her van with two helpers was feeding dogs peacefully outside Society at a point designated by Society early evening when one Varun Kumar, Kosmos resident, stopped his car, stopped the feeding, ordered van to be parked on side, pulled boys out of van and summoned more people from Society.
Soon the boys were surrounded and threatened. They did not lift a finger even in self-defense but stood there quietly being abused and threatened. They rang Tamanna who was on her way back from Delhi. She called police and rushed to the spot.
By the time she arrived, there was already a huge mob gathered. She remained on the outskirts taking videos. Nobody in this crowd who later claimed how much problem they had with her etc even recognised her or knew who she was.
She moved towards her helpers who were being heckled and the crowd now started abusing and pushing her. Police told her to get into van for her safety. Crowd started banging on windows, shouting maaro maaro, pushing the van, trying to overturn it, deflated the Tyres. Police got on and drove the van to police station. The whole mob followed and called for even more people to join to pressurize the police saying “Aisa mauka nahin milega dobaara.”

At the Thana, police forcibly confiscated her phone— 3 lady cons tables pinned her down and then locked her up in the dak room. The two helpers were locked up on the cell.
Her associate Sanjay Dhingra who came to enquire about her was beaten up by the mob who were sitting in SHO room with SSI Sanjay Malik.
He too was put in the lock up. All three were beaten by police.
At about 2.30 am , a lawyer reached and Sai Malik told him he was busy listening to the residents. Only after a couple of hours did he bother to meet him and then released Tamanna but filed FIR against her, the 2 helpers and Sanjay dhingra. No action was taken against the mob.
A group of people went to meet aceo Laxmi the next day, she did not meet but sent to Addl commissioner Meena, he sent to ACP Twinkle who asked for 3 days’ time to resolve matter.
Nothing has been done.
There is CCTV footage which police has got at our instance. We hv seen it but not been allowed to record it.
It captures the whole incident from 20.58 to 22.00 on 26Th evening.
Some bound down notices have been issued to 5 residents but apart from that police has not taken any action to resolve matter.
Few things are absolutely clear from CCTV Feeding was not taking place within Society premises but on a public Chauraha. The two boys Akash and Amit were quiet and peaceful all through— neither even raised a finger as they were pulled out of van, surrounded and threatened. IO saw this himself. The incident was started by one Varun Kumar (Kosmos resident) who within seconds of the can arriving, stopped his car, he and his wife ran to the van, ordered van to stop feeding and park, all of which was complied with by Amit and Akash. He then phoned other people and collected the mob. Neither Tamanna nor Sanjay Dhingra was present on the scene. It is only after police (112) arrived on scene that Tamanna enters the spot. She is outside the mob for s considerable period of time, taking videos. Nobody even recognized her— such is the level of falsehood. They don’t even know the person who is supposedly holding the whole society to ransom!! Sanjay Dhingra was never present at all.

Many in the mob were taking videos continuously. There is no evidence on CCTV or any of the videos that shows Tamanna hitting or harming anyone. Yet there is plenty of videos showing her being surrounded, threatened and abused.

Crime Editor Rohit Kumar of Newsindia9 spoke to Ambika Shukla, Director- Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Center and a noted animal welfare activist that they are looking into the matter.
